Jazz music, a distinctly American invention, is different from any other types of music. Although the roots of jazz begin in United States, it is now considered to have a fine mixture of African culture enmeshed in it. The four distinct components of jazz music are rhythm, harmony, melody, and tonal qualities. Regardless of your preference for the type jazz, you’ll be able to find a club that caters to your tastes. experimental jazz is one of the more popular styles, with venues popping up all over the world, including many European cities.

One jazz style is called the Work Song. It is upbeat and rhythmically fast because it was used to make the work day go by faster. The Work Song is repeated over and over and isn’t considered a modern form. This jazz tends to be associated with African American music. It’s probably the rhythmic beat that makes it the least popular jazz style today.

New Orleans Jazz is another style that had its beginnings in the early 1890′s American history. It began marching songs and gospel songs used in brass band performances. One of the foremost leaders in this style is the famous bandleader, William Basie, otherwise known for his band, the Count Basie Orchestra. This style of jazz is still popular today.

Chicago jazz came along a bit later, in late 1917. Chicago was the center of jazz around then since musicians were leaving the south because of prohibition. They were also coming north to look for new employment opportunities and find places to play their new form of jazz. During this period the piano became an important background of the jazz experience. This new sound evolved as Chicago Style jazz.

Following World War II, jazz went through another transformation with the introduction of Bebop. Bebop, a fusion of fast tempo and changing rhythmic patterns, creates a softer and lighter sound of jazz. Bebop often highlights a solo performer instead of an entire band.

Jazz is an ever changing type of music that always retains some formation of its roots. Jazz is one style of music that has changed according to different times and the different outlook of the people listening to it. The flexibility of jazz to adapt to these different times and needs is one of the big reasons it is alive and so popular today.

If you want your message to stay in the mind of your audience, you can try using promotional tools like print posters. Print posters have the ability to carry images and enough information about the concert event. These prints are also big in size, giving you more room for creativity. Below are concert poster ideas that you can use to grab people’s attention.

• Vintage: Add a classic touch to your concert posters by setting the color of your images into black and white or sepia to achieve the washed-out look. You can do this by editing your images using computer software like Photoshop. Use vintage-looking font types to complement your poster design. Browse through the internet to get inspiration from vintage posters of classic movies in the past. Try mimicking movie posters of Charlie Chaplin or Audrey Hepburn and make it your own.

• Psychedelic: This concert poster idea is all about bright, contrasting colors and extreme depth of details which almost violate the principle rules in poster design. However, this exaggeration technique is what makes psychedelic a fun and creative poster idea. You can do your poster experiment with the use of computer software that can be downloaded online.

• Typography: Combine different type arrangement and design to create a creative image for your concert posters. You can download software on the internet to make the design process fast and easy for you. If you do not have artistic skills to pull off this poster idea, you can seek help from a professional graphic artist.

Aside from your concert poster design, another important thing that you should consider is supplying all the essential information about the concert. Your print poster should be able to do two things: to entertain and to inform. When you are able to do this, your concert posters will definitely attract the attention of many concert enthusiasts.

Promotion for up-and-coming jazz bands can be challenging due to competition with other established and popular bands. These bands may also have very limited resources at these beginning stages. One inexpensive but directly effective way for new jazz club bands to promote themselves is the use of printed marketing materials. Examples of these marketing materials include:

Flyers – Flyers can be a quick and easy way to gain publicity for a new, local jazz band. Portraits shots or a graphic symbol of the band can be used as the subjects of the flyers. They can include essential information such as band name, contact information, and other links to band websites or blogs. They can also include a list of regular performance venues, upcoming events, and tours. Bulk orders of flyers can be printed using the services of convenient online printing companies.

Postcards – Postcards can be a creative tool for marketing a new jazz band. Postcards have always been associated with art and can serve as popular promotional materials. They can also serve as free gifts to loyal fans, sponsors, promoters, and club owners. Portrait shots of the band or any symbolic photo can be printed on them. Online printing services offer wholesale orders of postcards at very reasonable and discount prices of up to 30 percent.

There are many ways for concert organizers to promote a concert. Some of these possible ways are through marketing prints, online promotion and media exposure.

Marketing Prints

There are many printing companies that offer offset printing for marketing collaterals. The offset method is commonly used for marketing purposes. This is ideal for big concerts and shows that require a huge amount of marketing prints. These marketing outputs include flyers, posters and banners. However, for some bands that are just starting up to be popular, digital printing is the best method for them. Creating concert prints digitally is a cost-effective method for promoting a mini-concert. This is because clients can opt to print small quantity of prints from 1 to 50.

Online Promotion

Web presence is important for bands whether they’re having a concert or not. Creating a website is advisable for any musician to have a piece of publicity about upcoming shows, events and appearances on TV. In addition, fans and supporters can view their favorite band’s profile and song list through the website. Online promotion is effective because of the growing number of Internet users. A specific band website can be viewed by anyone, including the fans, other musicians and even potential clients.

Media Exposure

It is the concert promoters’ responsibility to seek for TV and radio stations that are willing to announce events for free. This can be done through negotiations and notifications many weeks in advance. The announcement must include the date of the concert, time, venue, ticket outlets and the ticket prices. Concert promoters must send letters to the management of certain radio or TV stations to arrange an interview with a particular band or musician.

These are cost-effective ways to promote a band concert. Other possible ways can be done by the band members themselves. Word of mouth is also a way to let the people know about a certain musical show. Moreover, band members can encourage their families, relatives and friends to watch their concert.

Buying concert tickets online is an easy enough thing to do since there are a lot of ticket sellers and ticket-selling websites that are easily accessible.. Knowing where to find them and being able to get your hands on them requires a bit of planning, careful strategizing, and some luck.

The key to finding success in the online ticket marketplace is to know the best places to start your search. Ticketmaster should be your first stop since it is the primary ticket distribution service for all shows and arenas. By visiting this site first you will have access to seats at their original face value, assuming that the show has not sold out. The best way to find success with Ticketmaster is to plan ahead. You can use their search feature to determine exactly when a show goes on sale, which will allow you to purchase tickets the exact moment they are available.

Another method to gaining the inside track on upcoming shows is to become a member of the fan club for your favorite artist. This can usually be done by simply registering at the artist’s website. Some fan clubs offer the opportunity for members to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the public, while others send out emails reminding fans when the public sales begin. Either way, by taking the time to register at these sites you will always know when your favorite band is coming to your region.

If your concert has already sold out, then it is best to look into the secondary ticket marketplaces. The two most popular are eBay and StubHub. The advantage to these websites is that you can bid on the tickets that you want. This means you will only pay a price that you can afford. Of course it is important to monitor the auctions to make sure you don’t get outbid on an item you really want. In addition to live auctions, many of the tickets feature a “buy it now” option that allows you to secure the tickets immediately. There is no cost to the buyer for using these services, but you will need to register for a free account and have a credit card to pay for transaction.

Browsing online classified ad websites like Craigslist is another way to find tickets. Doing business through these websites is not always as secure since there are no regulations for posting an ad, but you can protect yourself by following some simple guidelines. First, always make sure to exchange the money and tickets in person so that you can verify their authenticity. Second, never participate in a transaction where the seller wants you to pay through a third party. Doing these things will go a long way to insuring you get exactly what you are paying for.

There are many different options for fans to by concert tickets online. The more avenues you become familiar with, the better your chances will be to secure seats to your favorite shows. The good news is that it doesn’t cost anything to browse these different marketplaces. Take the time to familiarize yourself with them before buying anything. Once you know how the system works, you can make the best purchasing decision for your budget.

Firstly, the single most important thing when you want to promote a concert is to start delegating duties and make sure helpers know what’s expected of them.

Flyers and Posters – It’s important to have a well designed, eye-catching flyer or poster. It will show people that the concert deserves their anticipation, time and money.

The artist’s management may provide you with some flyers or posters to start with.

If you prefer to create your own flyer or poster, you should find a graphics professional or pronting company willing to donate services in exchange for advertising.

If it’s the first time the artist is coming to your town or city be sure to include a testimonial on the flyer or poster. A flyer that simple advertises an artist or a band will mean nothing to someone who has never heard of them!

Assign volunteers to post the flyers in places likely to attract the most attention. Try grocery stores, local chamber of Commerce offices, Art Councils or other communities, malls, shoping plazas, music stores, book stores, galleries and other popular gathering spots where flyers are displayed routinely but be sure to ask for permission before posting.

Do not forget to post the flyers or posters to the concert location itself! Try to hang posters as close to the average eye level as possible.

Media and other sources of publicity – List the concert in community calendars, Newspaper, Magazines or radio and TV stations if possible. Radio and Tv stations may be willing to anounce events for free.

Be sure to notice them many weeks in advance. In the listing include the date of the concert, time, location, ticket price, ticket outlets, sponsors of course and phone numbers for information.

Ask promotional material from the artist’s managementslike interviews, video clips, song samples, photographs etc. Try to deliver the material to the media along with the news release anouncing the concert.

Make sure you follow up by phone. Ask from the management to arrange an interview with the artist(s) if possible. Discuss other possibilities.

Provide artist’s promo material (if available) to radio stations likely to air it. Encourage them to play it often especially a week or two before the concert. Have volunteers and friends telephone the stations and request more..!

If you are using an answering machine make a recording using sound clips from the artist. Advertise the phone numbers available to call in newspapaer or on the radio. Include a short message in the recordings detailing concert info.

When you are online, subscribe to any music-related newsgroups or bulletin boards. Post messages about your anticipation, plans and later, show specific information! Of course if you own a website, consider creating a special area to advertise the concert with a hot-link to the artist’s home page (if any).

Ask from the media to co-sponsor (sharing in work or revenues) or to endorse the concert for publicity purposes. If they say ‘YES’ then make sure you include a ‘..co-sponsored by..’ message in the flyers and other promotional material.
